Playa Santiago

Playa Santiago

Playa de Santiago is a lovely tourist town near the airport on La Gomera's dry southern coast.

Book a hotel in Playa Santiago

Of the three main beach resorts on the island, Playa Santiago is the quietest and usually the least crowded.

The town centre consists of a pretty coastal promenade with a few shops and restaurants and a few narrow streets. You can walk along the sidewalk (about 800 meters) to get a nice view of the whole valley.

Beaches and swimming

There is one main beach in town, which is covered with pebbles mixed with black volcanic sand.

The beach is located in the harbour bay, so the sea is very calm most of the time. The entrance is a bit rocky but gradual, so it is suitable for older people or travellers with children.

The beach is directly adjacent to the promenade where you will find full facilities (shops, restaurants).

To the east of the centre in two small valleys you will find two more small beaches accessible by car on the asphalt road - Playa de Tapachuga and Playa del Medio.

Transportation to Playa Santiago

The resort is located on the south side of the island and is accessible by car, bus and boat.

You can park your car in the large free car park just 50 metres from the promenade and beaches.

Buses also run directly to the centre of Playa Santiago:

  • Line 3 - direction San Sebastian, Degollada de Peraza, Alajeró, Gomera Airport
    • 4 times a day from Monday to Saturday
    • 3 times a day on Sundays and public holidays
    • Timetable and map
  • Line 7 - direction Gomera Airport, San Sebastian, Degollada de Peraza

In Playa Santiago you can also use the port where Fred's boats sail. Olsen. These boats are passenger only and do not carry cars.

The boats sail non-stop on the following routes:

  • Valle de Gran Rey (island of La Gomera) - 2 times a day / sailing time approx. 45 minutes
  • San Sebastian (island of La Gomera) - 2x daily / cruise takes approx. 30 minutes

Hotels in Playa Santiago

The town is one of the tourist centres of the island, yet there is only one large hotel.

Other offerings include fully equipped apartments ideal for family holidays. For example, we would choose these with great ratings:
