La Gomera is the second smallest of the main Canary Islands, and as there are no direct flights from Europe to the small local airport, it is considerably less visited than neighbouring Tenerife.
However, Gomera is one of the most beautiful places we have visited and is definitely worth a trip, despite the need for an extra flight or ferry ride.
The 10 best accommodations in Gomera
The incredibly rugged island, where you won't even find 100 metres of flat land, is made up of a 1,500-metre-high central mountain range from which dozens of diverse valleys run down to the sea.
The Martian landscape is interspersed with wooded ravines or valleys with palm trees, fields and villages.
La Gomera is primarily a hiker's paradise, but Valle Gran Rey also offers beautiful beaches of black volcanic sand.
