Cap de Formentor

Cap de Formentor

Just a few kilometres from the town of Pollenca you will find probably the most photogenic place on the island, Cap de Formentor.

Locals also call it the meeting point of winds, which also gives you an idea of what conditions to expect here, it can be very windy, but that's not a bad thing in the summer months. This is actually the end of the Formentor Peninsula, which is 20km long, the northernmost tip of the whole of Mallorca. In good weather you can see neighbouring Menorca from here.

The lighthouse, which is featured on many postcards, is not accessible, but you can walk nearby and enjoy views of the rocky cliffs and the sea. In winter, peregrine falcons nest here and you can also see hundreds of migratory birds on their way to/from warmer climes.

During the summer months, the road between the beach and the lighthouse is closed every day from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, but in winter there are no restrictions.

Also check out the Es Colomer site, which offers an overall view of Cape Formentor and the surrounding cliffs and is one of the most famous spots in Mallorca.

How to get there?

Cap de Formentor is located on the northern tip of Mallorca, about 76 km from Palma. You can drive right up to the lighthouse, where you can also park anywhere along the road. Just be aware that during high season it gets crowded with cars and, especially at sunset, you may have to walk hundreds of metres alongside parked cars.

Compare car rental prices

In the summer season, the road is closed to cars from 10:00 to 19:00 and you have to take a bus.

On the way to the cape, you'll come across several spots that offer breathtaking views of the cliffs and the sea. Be very careful when driving, the road is narrow and tourist drivers often stop unpredictably for photo stops.

Cap de Fromentor can also be reached by bus number 334, which runs 1-2 times from Alcúdia, Port de Pollenca and Cala Figuera.

Accommodation

Most accommodation is in the nearby town of Port de Pollença, where hotels, apartments and studios are concentrated. Expect high prices, however - the cheapest apartments start at 110 eur per night for two during high season. You won't find any accommodation directly on the beach or within walking distance.
