The oldest part of Esztergom is called the Water Town (Víziváros in Hungarian), as it lies along the so-called Little Danube, an artificial arm of the river that runs right into the centre of the town.
Stroll through the romantic narrow streets with nicely landscaped historic houses (most dating from the 18th to 19th centuries) and relax on the benches of the promenade along the Little Danube.
The centre of Water Town, Széchenyi Tér Square with its beautiful historic town hall, is also considered one of the centres of the whole of Ostřihom.
The dominant feature of Water Town is the Church of St. Ignatius, but views also open up to Castle Hill with the Ostřihom Basilica and the Royal Castle.
