Da Nang is the traffic crossroads of central Vietnam. You can get here really easily and quickly from many locations across the country. For many travellers, Da Nang is also the starting point for travelling to many other locations in this part of Vietnam - especially for trips to Hoi An or Hue.

You can fly into Da Nang, take a train or a long-distance bus to get here by land.

By air

The city is served by the relatively large Da Nang DAD international airport.

This airport is the largest airport in central Vietnam and is served by a large number of scheduled flights - both from overseas and directly from Vietnam.

Flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City arrive at Da Nang Airport several times a day.

These routes are mainly served by Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air, but you can also meet the lesser-known Bamboo Airways. Other domestic routes include direct flights to Phu Quoc, Can Tho, Nha Trang and Da Lat.

Da Nang also has connections to most other major cities in the region. Travellers may find it useful to take a direct flight to Bangkok, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, for example. The routes are operated by a number of airlines, and you can compare prices for flights to Da Nang at skyscanner.com.

By train

A railway line runs from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi along the coastline through Vietnam. Trains on this route also stop at the Da Nang train station, which is close to the city centre.

The train journey is relatively comfortable, although very slow compared to bus and especially air travel. You can use the train to travel to many tourist destinations, for example from Da Nang it runs to Hue or Nha Trang.

Travelling by train is relatively cheap in Vietnam, you can buy a ticket on the Hanoi - Da Nang route from 250 000 vnd. Trains run several times a day on the line.

By bus

If you're looking for more flexibility or want to travel cheaper, take advantage of the bus routes. Long-distance buses also provide direct connections to destinations not served by train, such as Phong Nha.

Long-distance buses are very comfortable, usually have special seats to lie on, and are equipped with pillows and blankets. On the other hand, they are probably the least safe mode of transport.
