Getting around Da Nang

Da Nang City, Vietnam

Although Da Nang is a big city, the centre and the main attractions are not that far apart, so it's quite easy to get around on foot. At the same time, it offers a fairly sophisticated public transport network that can be tracked online, but is still used by the bare minimum of tourists.

If you don't feel like walking or taking the bus, you can of course rent a scooter, car or take a taxi. Transportation is also very cheap in Da Nang, so don't hesitate to explore the city thoroughly.

Da Nang is also very well connected to other tourist destinations in the area, which you can visit on day trips.

City buses

The bus system in Da Nang can be complicated for foreigners at first glance, but in fact, using public buses in the city is the easiest and also a very cheap form of transportation.

The routes of all buses can be found on the website danangbus.vn. Some of the buses are also uploaded to Google Maps, so feel free to use the maps for your public transport planning, it will make everything even easier.

Tickets are bought in cash from the driver and one ride usually costs 5 000 vnd, some routes, such as those that go outside the city, can be more expensive.

The following lines in particular can be useful for tourists:

  • Line 2 - Runs from the city centre one way to Lady Buddha and the other way to Non Nuoc beach.
  • Line 3 - Connects downtown Da Nang with the lower cable car station to the Ba Na Hills entertainment complex.
  • Line 6 - Runs from the airport to the city centre and Da Nang Beach.
  • Line 16 - Runs throughout the city centre, stopping at the bus station, Dragon Bridge, Marble Mountains and also at Korea University (transferring to LK02 to Hoi An).
  • Line LK02 - This line runs from Korea University to Hoi An town south of Da Nang and also to Cua Dai port

Rent a scooter

Da Nang is a big city with complicated traffic, so not everyone who enjoyed riding a scooter in the Vietnamese countryside will want to rent one here. Still, a scooter can be a useful way to blend in with the crowd and get around the sights quickly.

While in other parts of Vietnam they rent scooters literally on every corner, in Da Nang renting can be more complicated as you will have to search for an official rental company. For example, we can recommend Tuan Motorbikes Rental.

You will pay approximately 200 000 vnd per day to rent a scooter in Da Nang. Also remember that some roads in Da Nang have automatic scooters banned (typically Son Tra Peninsula), in which case you will have to choose a semi-automatic or manual motorbike.

Be careful when travelling on a scooter in the city, the traffic is very dense and complicated. When driving on the Hai Van Pass, watch out for trucks passing in close proximity. A popular option is also to rent a scooter in Da Nang and return it in Hue after passing the scenic route.

Rent a car

A less popular option is to rent a car. There are several car rental companies in Da Nang, but no international chains. So be careful where you rent your car and to avoid damaging it on the road, which is easy in local traffic.

We recommend renting a car only as a last resort, and be sure to opt for public transport, taxis and possibly a scooter first.

Taxi or Grab

There are many cheap taxis running in the city, and for foreigners the easiest way to book a car and driver is by using the Grab app. You'll pay around 10 000 vnd for a one-kilometre Grab ride, which is a great price.

If you're taking a regular taxi, always make sure your speedometer is either on before you get in the car, or agree a fixed price for the journey with the driver.
