Plaza de la Candelaria is the natural centre of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and a popular meeting place for locals and tourists alike.
It is located in the historic centre near the main passenger ferry port. It is closely followed by the adjacent and very large Plaza de España.
Bars, cafes and restaurants
The area around Plaza de la Candelaria is the centre of Santa Cruz's nightlife.
Here you will find a large number of cosy restaurants, bars and cafés open all day.
The streets and restaurants come alive around 18:30 and close after midnight. If you're planning on having breakfast in a café, expect that the first establishments don't open until around 8:30 or 9:00.
La Charca Fountain
In the adjacent Plaza de España, you'll find a circular fountain with a diameter of over 40 metres, but it only operates from March to October, and if there's a shortage of water, it remains out of action in summer.
In this case, the bottom of the fountain serves as a normal square and you can walk around in peace.
On the southern edge of this square there is a large monument with a bronze statue of a soldier, as well as a sign saying "Santa Cruz", which tourists like to take pictures of.
