Capdepera is a picturesque town in the east of the island near the resort of Cala Ratjada. Its main attraction is the historic fortified castle dating back to the 14th century, which for centuries served as protection from pirate attacks.

The Castillo de Capdepera (Castell de Capdepera) towers over the town on a 172-metre-high hill and was commissioned by King James II in exactly 1300. Aragon as protection for the sea routes around Mallorca.
The Castillo de Capdepera's opening hours vary according to the season. In winter from 10:00 to 17:00, and in summer until 19:00. During January and part of February it is closed. To enter, pay just 3 eur.
How to get there?
It takes about an hour by car from Palma to get to Capdepera. The 75km drive is mostly on the motorway and you can park anywhere in the town for free.
