We personally liked the west coast of Gomera the most for its wide steep valleys covered with prickly pears and palm trees and its many small villages.
Adding to the monumentality are the dramatic looking rocky cliffs reaching heights of over 800 metres.
One of the most beautiful valleys is that of the small village of Alojera.

Visit Playa de Alojera
The main attraction in the Alojera valley is a small village literally stuck on the rocks by the sea, along which stretches the very photogenic Alojera beach.
Large rocks cover the beach, but Alojera beach is very popular for sunbathing. Safe swimming is possible to the right of the concrete pier, where natural pools are formed, protected from the big waves.
A short walk from the beach is the good and relatively cheap local restaurant Prisma, open daily 12:30-16:30 and 18:30-21:00.
The beach is reached by car on a new asphalt road.
Enjoy the views
The road descending from the mountains down into the village constantly forces you to stop for photo breaks.
The landscape of the Alojera valley is one of the most beautiful on the whole island and the sunsets from here are particularly breathtaking.
Where to stay
Alojera is a little off the main tourist streams, but if you have a car, it's a great alternative to quiet accommodation.
You'll find several well-rated private apartments here.
How to get there
A nice new road full of serpentines and beautiful views leads to Alojera. You can park anywhere along the road where there is a free space.
There are usually plenty of parking spaces along the beach.
There is also a signposted hiking trail running parallel to the road connecting Vallehermoso and Arure.
Bus line 5 from Vallehermoso also goes to the village, but only runs twice a day Monday to Friday, see map and timetable.
