On the northern coast, below the 600-metre-high cliffs of the Abrante lookout, in an idyllic landscape of green fields, lies the picturesque village of Agulo.
Its unique location, with its beautifully restored colourful houses crammed one on top of the other, has earned Agulo the nickname "the sweetness of Gomera".
What to see and do in Agulo?
The village of Agulo is the most visited place on Gomera, apart from the three largest towns on the island (San Sebastian, Valle Gran Rey and Vallehermoso).
Stroll through the narrow and very clean streets with their beautiful houses, go to one of the many local restaurants and visit the architecturally very unusual church of San Marcos Evangelista.
From the village, there is also a marked path about 1 km long through banana plantations to the ocean and the rocky beach of La Verdura.
Where to stay
Agulo is a great place to stay if you want to experience the atmosphere of an ancient yet very accessible village.
In Agulo, besides restaurants, you will also find, for example, a small Udaco supermarket.
There are no traditional hotels in the village, but you will find many private apartments. We choose the ones with the best value for money:
Our secret tip, however, is the apartment Los Cerrajones with spectacular views of the ocean and the cliffs.
How to get there
Agulo is easily accessible by car, as it's right on the main GM-1 road.
You can park for free anywhere along the main road in the center of the village.
Buses also pass through Agulo on this route:
- Line 2: Vallehermoso - Agulo - Hermigua - San Sebastian
- 5 times a day Monday to Saturday; 3 times a day on Sundays and public holidays
