At the time of the Industrial Revolution during the 19th century, there was a need to transport agricultural products quickly from the north coast of Gomera to the world.

However, because the very rugged coastline had no suitable place to build conventional harbours, special cranes had to be built on several stone pillars that ran up to 200 metres from the shore to where ships could safely dock.
The best preserved of these historic wharves can be found in the village of Hermigua on the beautiful dramatic coastline.
All that remains of the former harbour are stone structures, but you can still get a good feel for the atmosphere of a bygone era.
Moreover, from Pescante de Hermigua you have breathtaking views over the Hermigua Valley.
How to get there
Pescante de Hermigua is located about 3 km from the centre of Hermigua and 1.5 km from the main road.
You can drive to the bottom of the cliff, where there is free parking. From there, you can walk about 400 metres.
