Mirador de Bascos is, in our opinion, the most beautiful on the island of El Hierro and perhaps the most beautiful in the Canary Islands.
The unrelenting strong, sometimes extreme winds, the totally isolated location tens of kilometres from civilisation and the unspoilt nature give this viewpoint an absolutely mystical touch.
Views of El Golfo
Mirador de Bascos offers breathtaking views of El Hierro's northern coastline, which forms the vast El Golfo valley created by ancient landslides from heights of up to 1,500 metres.
The viewpoint itself is situated on a rock promontory 600 metres above sea level and also offers views of the small village of Sabinosa and Pozo de la Salud just below the cliff.
How to get there
A dirt road leads up to the viewpoint, passable with care even for the smallest of cars. The road breaks off from the tarmac road near the chapel of Nuestra Señora de los Reyes.
However, we recommend that you park your car further away, for example somewhere around here, and walk to the viewpoint.
The western part of the island is completely orphaned and offers wonderful walks through meadows, semi-desert-like landscapes and majestic juniper forests. Along the way, you will also see the famous El Sabinar juniper tree shaped by the wind.
