There are beautiful hiking trails in the northern part of the westernmost tip of the island, and one of them starts at the famous viewpoint at El Sabinar forest.
Here, strong and unceasing winds from the northeast have shaped the trees in the juniper forest into bizarre and almost unbelievable shapes.
All the trees lean to one side to escape the force of the wind. The windward side of the trunk is completely bare and all branches point westward.
The most famous tree, El Sabinar, grows at the start of a beautiful trail heading to one of the best viewpoints - Mirador de Bascos.
You can drive right up to El Sabinar tree on a dirt and rocky road, but it is passable with caution for all kinds of cars.
