The Magic Fountain is closed from the beginning of 2023 until further notice due to a prolonged drought.
The area around Montjuïc Hill and Plaça d'Espanya is full of attractions and one of the most visited is undoubtedly the Font magica de Montjuic, the Magic Fountain, located directly below the Palau Nacional, Catalonia's national art museum. The fountain was built, like most of the other buildings in the area, in 1929 to celebrate the World Expo.
The best accommodation in Barcelona
During the day, you can admire the majestic proportions of the fountain with more than 3,600 jets creating different choreographies. The highest spout of water rises to a height of 50 metres, and on sultry summer days the spray of water around the area is a welcome refreshment.
A magical nighttime spectacle
The main time to visit the fountain, however, is clearly in the evening. At dusk and after dark, a spectacular show begins, with streams of water "dancing" to music from loudspeakers, while the whole choreography is complemented by the play of coloured lights from dozens of spotlights.
The dancing and singing water show runs from May to October between 21:00-23:30 at 15-minute intervals. There is no admission fee to enter the fountain.
