The Montjuïc hill, towering over the harbour and the old centre, has always been strategically located for the defence of the city, which is why a defensive castle has stood on top since 1640.
This very well-preserved building, which has undergone only minor renovations, is open to the public.
Visit the small museum and the walls
Castell de Montjuïc is relatively small and it will take you about 30 minutes to visit its interior.
The entire walls are completely accessible and offer breathtaking views of Barcelona, the harbour and the sea, as well as several rooms.
Inside the castle, you will see small exhibitions about the history of the castle, Barcelona, but also about the natural conditions of Montjuïc hill.
The indoor exhibitions are more of an addition to the overall visit, and the walls are the main destination for most tourists.
Entrance fees and opening hours
The castle is open to the public every day. It always opens at 10:00 am, closing time during winter is at 6:00 pm and in summer at 8:00 pm.
You can buy a ticket for 12 eur at the door or online for the same price.
