Regular ferries to Belawan Port near Medan from Malaysia were cancelled in 2021 and have not yet been reinstated.
By bus
Although Indonesia is an island nation, it shares several of its islands with other countries, so it is possible to get to Indonesia by land in a way.
From Malaysia
Indonesia borders Malaysia on the island of Borneo and there is only one main road across the border, which is used by regular bus services.

From East Timor
There is currently no direct bus service between Timor-Leste, Indonesia and the state of Timor-Leste.

There is no regular service on the only road linking the two countries (between the towns of Jayapura and Vanimo).
