Indonesia is an island nation in Southeast Asia, comprising more than 17,000 islands, the largest of which are Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan (which Indonesia shares with Malaysia and Brunei), Sulawesi and New Guinea (Indonesia includes the western half of the island).

It is bordered by Malaysia and the Philippines to the north across the sea, and Australia to the south. The capital is Jakarta on the island of Java.

Indonesia is an incredibly diverse country and you will encounter its national motto "unity in diversity" everywhere - on every island you will encounter different cultures, customs, languages, people and their customs.

Although this country is a republic, you'll find sultanates, kingdoms or tribes whose way of life hasn't changed much since the Stone Age, in contrast to the modern and comfortable cities overloaded with traffic.

If you love nature, you are right here, it is a beautiful green country with the second most diverse biodiversity in the world, many nature parks and reserves. You can travel here with a tour operator or on your own - Indonesia will welcome you with open arms.
