Osaka Kansai Airport is one of Japan's most important air ports.
Built on an artificial island about 40 kilometres south of Osaka, it has taken over all international and some domestic traffic from Osaka's second airport, Itami, since its opening in 1994.
Kansai Airport is the third most important international hub after Tokyo's Haneda and Narita airports.
Many direct flights from abroad, especially from South Korea, China, Taiwan, the Philippines and Southeast Asia, are routed here.
There are also direct long-haul flights to Osaka from these cities:
- Abu Dhabi - Etihad Airways
- Amsterdam - KLM
- Doha - Qatar Airways
- Dubai - Emirates
- Brisbane - Jetstar
- Cairns - Jetstar
