Market Place

The Market Place is the main square in historic Durham and all visitors going to visit the cathedral and castle will pass through it.
The square is dominated by the 19th century St Nicholas Church and the large equestrian statue of 3. Charles William Vane Stewart, Marquess of Londonderry.
The centre around the Market Place is Durham's main commercial area, with many tourist shops as well as services such as supermarkets, banks and a post office.
A pedestrianised High Street full of shops and restaurants leads from the square towards the cathedral, followed by the romantic-looking Bailey Street.
