Durham in a nutshell

Durham is a small city of 50,000 people situated in the picturesque River Wear Valley in the very north of England. With its majestic cathedral and castle, Durham is one of the most touristy cities in the whole of England and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Because Durham is small, most travellers make a day trip here from the much larger city of Newcastle, 30 miles to the north.
You can also combine a visit to Durham with a walk along the famous Hadrian's Wall, about 50 km away.
