Lanzarote, like the rest of the Canary Islands, enjoys a pleasant climate all year round, inviting visitors at any time of the year.
Along with neighbouring Fuerteventura, the island has a subtropical desert climate with minimal rainfall. This is a big difference to the larger Tenerife or Gran Canaria, which have areas of frequent rain.

Lanzarote's rainfall is mainly concentrated in the winter months and even during these months there is very little rain. Statistically, there are only 16 rainy days between December and February, when it is not yet raining consistently, but only in the form of quick showers.
Temperatures during the winter drop to between 17 and 22 °C, while in the summer they can reach 30 °C. However, the air is made more comfortable by the wind, which tends to be cooler during the summer, while in winter it usually brings a feeling of warmer air from the Sahara.
The least windy part of Lanzarote is the southern tip around the resort of Playa Blanca.
Lanzarote during the year
Below we give you a more detailed description of Lanzarote's weather by month.
Weather in January
January in Lanzarote invites you to spend a pleasant winter with temperatures between 17 and 20°C ideal for exploring the island, hiking, cycling and road-tripping. There is often a strong wind, which can sometimes bring a chill, but at other times the air from Africa feels warmer.
During January it showers on average 5 days a month, but mostly only in the form of light showers.
Weather in February
February is statistically the coldest month of the year, but this means that average temperatures still hover around a comfortable 18°C, rarely touching the 14°C mark in the morning and night hours.
There are only a few showers during February and most of the day is sunny and windy, ideal for hiking.
Weather in March
The turning month between winter and spring, the weather changes only slowly. Temperatures continue to oscillate between 17 and 20 °C and the wind blows off the coast, sometimes sensationally lowering the temperature, sometimes raising it.
March is the last month of the "rainy" season, when at least sometimes a light shower falls. It will probably still be too cold for sunbathing by the sea, but March will be ideal for hiking.
Weather in April
Lanzarote welcomes visitors in April with spring temperatures between 19 and 22°C, verdant northern mountainsides and blossoming city parks. The wind is not as strong as during the winter months and rain is very sporadic.
April may not be the best month for swimming in the sea yet, as the water temperature does not exceed 19 °C, but the sun is already warming up nicely and sunbathing on the beaches can be a nice change between road trips and hiking.
Weather in May
May temperatures often touch summer highs of around 25 °C during the day, the skies are almost exclusively sunny and rain is already a rare occurrence in May.
The sea, however, is still not warm and the maximum temperature is around 20 °C.
Weather in June
For the first month of summer, expect average temperatures in Lanzarote to be between 23 and 26°C, which will have already lured many tourists to the beaches and resorts. Sea temperatures can reach 21°C and these are definitely swimmable temperatures.
During June it is more or less always sunny, with the occasional cloud, but rain is rare.
Weather in July
During July, Lanzarote receives an average of exactly 0 mm of rain, which, combined with the consistently sunny skies and daytime temperatures reaching 28 °C, makes for an inviting beach holiday.
Even the sea is already warming up to at least 21-22 °C and is pleasantly refreshing. Thanks to the light, pleasant winds, hiking trips in the mountains are possible even in the heat.
Weather in August
August is Lanzarot's hottest month, with average temperatures between 26 and 30 °C, tempered by a gentle breeze.
The sky is entirely sunny and raindrops are a very unusual phenomenon in August.
The weather in September
Even September is typically a summer month suitable for any type of holiday. Daily air temperatures of between 25 and 28°C and sea water temperatures of around 23°C make it tempting to swim in the sea, while the constant breeze also makes it easy to wander in the mountains.
During September, clouds rarely appear in the sky and rainfall is even more rare.
The weather in October
Although October is the first month of autumn in most of Europe, Lanzarote has a pleasant spring-summer climate.
Temperatures normally range from 22 to 25°C and the ocean water cools only slowly, staying around 23°C at all times.
Weather in November
If you're planning to escape the autumn blizzards to a region where it's neither cold nor hot, Lanzarote is the place to be. Temperatures oscillate between 20 and 24 °C, with showers in the form of light showers only a few times a month, creating ideal conditions for hiking as well as sunbathing on the beach.
Even the water in the sea is still relatively warm at a respectable 21 °C.
Weather in December
Although December is the rainiest month in Lanzarote, it doesn't mean anything worse than an average of 6 days during the month when it briefly showers. The skies are mostly sunny anyway, with perhaps only the stronger winds blowing along the west and east coasts making your stay a little more uncomfortable.
Normal December air temperatures soar to 18-22°C, while sea temperatures cool to 19-20°C.

When to go to Lanzarote
Lanzarote is a year-round destination. The sea water is much colder than in the Mediterranean, but the island is particularly attractive for a combination of beach and sightseeing holidays.
With more or less constant temperatures, virtually non-existent winters in the true sense of the word and the absence of extreme weather fluctuations, Lanzarote is one of the most pleasant destinations for travel.
Summer heat is tempered by constant winds, while winters are almost exclusively sunny. There's very little rain in Lanzarote, and even in the rainiest December, the chances of getting wet are slim indeed.
If you're travelling solely for the beaches, then the best months are July to October, when the sea is at least 21°C warm.
