Towns and starting points for exploring

The capital and largest city , Arrecife , is the best base for exploring the island. Located roughly in the middle, it's also close to the international airport, is home to all the car rental companies and has bus routes throughout the island.

Cheaper guesthouses or apartments can be found from 37 eur per night, while classic hotels on the coast range from 66 eur to 92 eur, which are much cheaper than the main resorts.

Vibrant resorts

If you're heading to Lanzarote with the main aim of staying by the sea while having some fun in the restaurants, bars and enjoying the water activities on offer, then there are two resorts that are perfect for you.

Puerto del Carmen - the largest with the longest beaches and all the tourist facilities, but still a tasteful town with no prefabs along the promenades. You'll find a mix of cheap private apartments from 37 eur per night and expensive hotel resorts.

Playa Blanca - this resort in the very south of Lanzarote is in a very exotic desert setting and is surrounded by interesting natural beaches in coves and lava fields. You will find mainly holiday villas from 55 eur per night and larger hotel resorts.

Quiet resorts

Do you prefer relaxation and divine tranquility? Lanzarote is the ideal destination. After all, even Lanzarote's liveliest resorts are sleepy villages compared to other destinations, but if you want true tranquillity, choose one of the following places.

Costa Teguise - a more luxurious resort with plenty of entertainment, but one that provides maximum tranquillity in large, gated hotel resorts and is ideal for combining a relaxing holiday with plenty of fun.

Playa Honda - a small resort with nice beaches and great access between Arrecife and the airport, it will only offer accommodation in smaller private apartments and quiet promenades with virtually no tourists.

La Santa - a small village on the west coast offers interesting man-made beaches in a very enclosed bay, along which several gated hotel resorts have sprung up. You'll also find cheap apartments and small guesthouses in the original village.

Inland towns

If you prefer exploring towns and villages outside the main resorts, head inland to Lanzarote. Here you'll experience true island tranquillity and the evenings, when even the last tourists leave for the bigger towns, can be magical.

Teguise, a historic town with several monuments, famous markets and very good accessibility, offers a boutique hotel as well as several well rated private apartments. However, prices here are higher and usually start at 92 eur per night.

Haría - a village in the idyllic countryside of northern Lanzarote is scattered across green fertile hillsides with fields and vineyards. You'll find mainly private holiday villas or apartments here and if you're looking for a stay in the true Lanzarote countryside, you've found the right place.

Hotel prices in Lanzarote

Lanzarote's prices are among the Canary Islands' above average and are generally more expensive than, say, Tenerife or Fuerteventura. However, it still tends to be among the cheaper ones in Western Europe, but it depends on the season.

The most expensive accommodation in Lanzarote will be between July and December, when a stay in a hotel resort will cost 92 eur 110 eur per night, and in private apartments between 44 eur and 62 eur per night in a 2-bed room.
