The small resort of La Caleta is one of the most popular places for swimming, not only in the beach but also in the public pools on the promenade.
La Caleta is very close to the Hierro VDE airport, so it's ideal for a few hours stopover before a flight or in the afternoon after arrival when you don't want to make any major excursions.
Free public pools and a beautiful promenade
As the entire coastline of El Hierro is very rugged with difficult access to the sea, a beautiful pedestrian promenade has been built around the entire northern part of the village.
From it, stone paths lead directly to the water, where they are topped with steps leading directly into the sea.
In addition, there are 3 public swimming pools on the promenade, which are very well maintained.
Entrance to this swimming pool is free 24/7 all year round.

How to get there
La Caleta is reached by a well-marked road and you can park for free anywhere along the street.
There is also a bus line 6 to the town, which takes you to Tamaduste and the capital Valverde.
Line 6 runs 6 times a day from Monday to Sunday. However, it doesn't go to the nearby airport - there is only a direct connection to line 10 from Valverde.
