The viewpoint at Isora is one of the most famous places not only in El Hierro, but in the whole of the Canary Islands.
The beautifully built observation deck with free public toilets is located on an 800-metre-high cliff above the Las Playas valley.
A magical spectacle of cliffs, ocean and night sky
From the Isora lookout, you'll see the majestic cliffs of the south coast dropping steeply into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, the endless distance of the water and the small houses scattered in the valleys along the coast.
As the viewpoint is located outside the village and therefore there is no significant light pollution in the immediate vicinity, on clear dry days there are also breathtaking views of the night sky.
The perpendicular trail down
From Mirador de Isora there is a popular hiking trail called the "Camino de Isora" which, although only less than 2 km long, has a drastic elevation gain of 800 metres.
This trail takes you all the way down to the sea at Las Playas and despite the considerable elevation gain, the path is comfortable and has handrails.
How to get there
Mirador de Isora is at the very end of the village of Isora and there is a tarmac road that leads all the way to the viewpoint. You can park for free wherever there is a free space along the roadside.
There's even a bus line 5 from Valverde that goes all the way to the viewpoint. The bus runs 6 times a day on weekdays and 5 times a day on weekends.
