Casa Milá

Casa Milá

Gaudí's most famous house in Barcelona is known as La Pedrera, meaning the quarry, but officially it is known as Casa Milá.

Here, too, the famous architect completely let his rich imagination run wild. He avoided straight lines wherever possible. The building is characterised by its heavy undulations, curves and hollowing.

Form and history

The construction of the building was commissioned by the influential businessman Pere Milá and began in 1901.

Although the house bears the typical features of Gaudí's architecture, it is not as colourful as his other buildings, which was a requirement of the owner of the house. Casa Milá (or La Pedrera) is considered one of the most important Spanish residential buildings of the 20th century.

You can admire the rounded exterior with its various bulges, curves or interesting spiral chimneys, but especially don't miss a visit to the interiors, which will delight all visitors. Even those who are not otherwise interested in architecture.

Here you can visit several living rooms, admire staircases of incredible shapes or the smallest details such as chairs, mantelpieces or clocks, which also bear the unmistakable style of Antoni Gaudí.

One of the most popular areas of the house "La Pedrera" is the large terrace with a beautiful view of the surrounding houses and the main avenue Passeig de Grácia.

The terrace is open to all visitors who have paid the normal admission fee.
