The quiet seaside resort of Tirrenia is the closest beach destination to the centre of Pisa, next to Marina di Pisa. And unlike the pebbly and not-so-comfortable beaches of Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia boasts a beautiful long beach with fine golden sand that will delight all lovers of peace and quiet.
The beach in Tirrenia is regularly protected from unpleasant winds by artificial outcrops of changing cabins. There are many umbrella and sunbed hire shops all along the beach, as well as several restaurants and bars.
Tirrenia is one of the small and very quiet resorts ideal for a half-day break from sightseeing.
How to get there
Tirrenia is connected to Pisa and Livorno by intercity bus line 10. It runs between Pisa and the beaches every 15-30 minutes during the day, and once an hour late at night.
There is only about every 2nd service to Livorno. The journey from Pisa takes about 25 minutes and buses leave from the Pisa Sesta Porta stop, which is about 150 metres from the train station - see location on map.
You can download the intercity bus timetables in .pdf format at pisa.cttnord.it.
Tickets cost 2,60 eur when purchased at any newsagent (Tabacchi) or via the Tabnet mobile app (unfortunately only available in Italian). At the driver, the ticket then goes for 4 eur.
