There are very few cities in the world that are famous for a single monument known to travellers across the globe. Italy's Pisa, with its famous Leaning Tower, is certainly one of those places. You'd be hard pressed to find any other major sights or places to visit in Pisa, but that doesn't mean that Pisa should be just a few hours' stop.
On the contrary, thanks to its location in the middle of Tuscany and at an important railway junction, Pisa can serve as a great starting point for trips to many places in the near and wider area.
A city that at first glance only needs a few hours to visit will eventually become a point where you can spend 10 days at a stretch and still not get bored thanks to the daily excursions.
For tips on specific excursions, see the Activities section of this guide.
