Pantai Baron

Pantai Baron

Pantai Baron is the place where the endless Indian Ocean meets the jagged coastline of South Java, creating a cozy little cove with a sandy beach and a tourist village.

The 10 best hotels in Yogyakarta

The bay is the most beautiful easily accessible spot on the Yogyakarta coast.

What to do in Pantai Baron

The diverse and beautiful coastline in the area directly encourages a variety of activities.

Beaches and swimming

Right in Pantai Baron you will find a small but very nice beach with fine golden sand. Thanks to the narrow bay, the waves are much smaller than in Parangtritis.

The entrance to the water is gradual and thanks to the proximity of the beach to the village, you can enjoy the facilities of snack stalls and umbrella rentals.

In the adjacent area you will find another small resort with several very photogenic beaches, which can be reached from Pantai Baron by taxi-motorbike or after about 30 minutes of walking on the road.

Boat trips to the caves

There are dozens of local boats moored in the bay that will take you to the beautiful caves and along the very photogenic coastline full of cliffs, rocks and small coves.

The boats are very small and the waves are often big, so this activity is only for the more adrenaline-focused travellers.

The price of the cruise always depends on bargaining and is usually around 200 000 idr for 30 minutes.

The view from the lighthouse

The beautiful tall white lighthouse towers over the bay and is easily reached after a short walk (about 15-20 minutes).

The lighthouse offers the best view of the wild coastline.

How to get there

Pantai Baron is 57 km from the centre of Yogyakarta and is accessible by taxi and public transport.

DAMRI Bus

DAMRI's regular minibus service is the cheapest and most convenient transport.

  • Yogyakarta - station at Bank Indonesia near Malioboro Avenue (see map)

  • Pantai Baron
    • Departures to Yogyakarta - 8:45, 9:45, 16:15, 17:15

Ticket cost 30 000 idr and you buy it before boarding the minibus at the kiosk. Only cash is accepted. You will not get any paper ticket, just pay the fare and board the minibus.

The journey time is about 100 minutes and only stops at Bank Indonesia in Yogyakarta for boarding.

Reliable online information is not available, official Damri website: damri.co.id.

Grab / Gojek

The most convenient option, but by far the most expensive, are the classic mobile taxi apps Grab or Gojek.

Pantai Baron is located far from Yogyakarta, but it's still no problem to arrange a ride via the mobile app. Expect to wait more than 30 minutes for a car on the return journey due to the remoteness of the location.

The price is calculated according to the current demand and is around 350 000 idr.
