If you've visited all the sights in Yogyakarta and the temples around it and are wondering where to go on a trip outside the city, you should focus your attention on the interesting attraction Tebing Breksi, or Breksi Cliff.
Book a hotel in Yogyakarta in advance
Tebing Breksi was formerly a limestone mining site, but in 2014 the mining was shut down and the area was converted into a tourist area due to the extremely interesting shape of the huge rock block jutting into the landscape.
Several artists have carved interesting ornaments into the limestone block and stairs have been built to the top of the "cliff".
Below the cliff you will find an area in the shape of an ancient amphitheatre, where various events are occasionally held.
Tebing Breksi is probably not the number 1 destination when visiting Yogyakarta, but if you have time left over, it is definitely a very original attraction.
Admission and opening hours
The cliff area is open every day from 8:00-21:00.
Ticket prices are as follows:
- 20 000 idr - foreign visitors
- 10 000 idr - local visitors
How to get there
The easiest and most reliable way to reach Tebing Breksi is via the Grab or Gojek taxi apps.
From the centre of Yogyakarta, pay around 70 000 idr from Prambanan Temple around 20 000 idr.
DAMRI bus Yogyakarta - Tebing Breksi - Prambanan - Borobudur
DAMRI has been operating a direct minibus service from Yogyakarta and onwards to Prambanan and Borobudur temples since 2021.
We recommend checking information locally, especially at the DAMRI booth through Bank Indonesia. It is not yet possible to find reliable information online. Our experience is from 2025.
So in one day you can easily visit both temples plus the cliff. The fare is paid separately for each route:
- Borobudur - Prambanan for 35 000 idr
- Prambanan - Tebing Breksi for 20 000 idr
- Tebing Breksi - Yogyakarta for 20 000 idr
