A popular destination not only for families with children, it is located in the east of Yogyakarta.

The Gembira Loka Zoo combined with a botanical garden and a leisure park is an ideal place to take a break from the hectic city.

The zoo covers an area of 22 hectares and is one of the most famous in Indonesia.

What to see at the zoo?

Yogyakarta Zoo keeps approximately 470 animals.

Among the most attractive species are the Komodo warthog, orangutans, gibbons, saltwater crocodiles, leopards and especially the native Indonesian tigers.

However, you will also find African animals in the zoo.

Visitors will enjoy the relaxation area with restaurants along the artificial lake.

Entrance fees and opening hours

The zoo is open every day from 8:00-16:00.

The ticket price for all is 60 000 idr.

How to get there

Apart from Taxi / Grab / Goyas, Gembira Loko zoo can also be reached by TransJogja buses.

The bus stop "Gembira Loka" is located about 250 meters from the entrance:

  • Zoo -> Malioboro Centre -> Railway Station - Line 1B
  • Zoo -> Adisutjipto Terminal -> Prambanan - line 1A
  • Zoo -> Lempuyangan -> Condongcatur Terminal - line 2A
  • Condongcatur Terminal -> Lempuyangan -> Zoo - line 2B
  • Tugu Monument -> Railway Station -> Malioboro Centre -> Zoo - Line 1A
