On the main street of Jalan Malioboro, you'll find countless shops, both local with souvenirs and batik fabrics, and Western with well-known brands.
As well as shopping, you can also eat here, either at local stalls or at the many restaurants around.

Then, at the very beginning of Malioboro on the side near Keraton, you can often see becak drivers passing the time playing chess; if you're brave, they'll be happy to let you play with them.
What to see on Malioboro?
Right on Jalan Malioboro, there are several interesting things to see:

Accommodation in the city centre is definitely the most practical. You'll have all the city's sights close at hand, as well as transportation hubs.
