Parangtritis Resort is the closest place from Yogyakarta where you can enjoy swimming in the ocean.
Due to its proximity to the city and its beautiful 3km long wide beach, Parangtritis is especially popular with locals. Very few foreign tourists come here.
While the beach is very busy on weekends, it is much more relaxed on weekdays and you can enjoy much more peace and quiet.
Beach facilities
Virtually the entire length of the beach is lined with dozens, perhaps hundreds, of small local restaurants and shops. As Parangtritis is mainly frequented by Indonesians, prices here are not particularly exorbitant.
At a few places you can rent a sun lounger with an umbrella or take advantage of some of the attractions such as pony rides or more adrenaline-pumping off-road quad rides.
The sea on the south coast of Java is often battered by big waves and you'll notice that most locals don't swim, they just enjoy being on land.
However, the entrance to the water is gradual and free of rocks.
