Martha Lavinia Beach

Lavinia State Reserve

The most secluded and visually one of the most beautiful beaches is located in the northeast of the island in the Lavinia State Reserve.

Martha Lavinia Beach is named after a ship that was wrecked off the coast in 1871.

Experience the power of the sea and the wind

Martha Lavinia has very fine white sand that is always blown by strong winds into grassy and marshy areas, creating beautiful dunes.

The sea here can be rough with high waves and is dangerous to swim in.

Nevertheless, we recommend to come here and enjoy this completely remote and beautiful place.

Swimming in Penny's Lagoon

You can, however, take a dip in nearby Penny's Lagoon, an inland lake with a comfortable sandy entrance and very little depth.

There's even a gazebo with a stove on the shore of Penny's Lagoon where you can grill your own food brought in.

How to get there

There is a signposted unpaved road leading to the beach, which is quite unpleasant in places (especially because of the "roller shutter"), but passable with care for smaller cars.
