Currie

Currie is the largest city on King Island, though it has just under 500 residents.
Currie is home to all the shops, restaurants, post office and other services, and is also where you'll find most of the accommodation options, gas stations and tourist attractions.
What to see in Currie?
The best places to see in Currie are along the coast.
There is a beautiful bay with a harbour and a small sandy beach popular for short walks and picnics.
A very pretty white lighthouse from 1879 towers 21 metres above the harbour.
Next to the lighthouse you can visit a small museum dedicated to the history of settlement on King Island. The museum is open daily except Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the summer, and only on weekends in the winter between 2pm and 4pm. Admission is 2 aud.
Shops and restaurants
Along the main road you will find, despite the very small total population of the island, a surprisingly well stocked supermarket, cafes and restaurants.
From a practical point of view, grocery shops are the most useful for tourists in Currie:
- FoodWorks - 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekends
- IGA - 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends
