King Island in a nutshell

Seals Rock

King Island is a little-visited island in the Bass Strait belonging to the Australian state of Tasmania.

The island may not be a tourist destination, but that's why it should be on your radar. In fact, you'll have the beautiful dramatic coastline and many hiking trails mostly to yourself.

King Island hotel prices and availability

King Island attracts attention for its breathtaking natural beaches suitable but only for walking or sunbathing (the water is very cold and the sea currents strong), the dramatic scenery of the south coast and the tallest lighthouse in Australia.

To experience the whole island, which measures roughly 70 km from north to south and 25 km from west to east, ideally stay here for at least 2 days. However, tourists often head here as part of a day trip from Melbourne.
