Ethem Bey Mosque

The oldest mosque in Tirana is one of the few monuments from the Ottoman period that survived the communist regime. More precisely, the Edhem Bey Mosque is one of the few monuments in Tirana that has survived the Ottoman Empire.
Completed in 1819, the mosque was closed during the communist rule and reopened in 1991.
Of particular interest are its outdoor frescoes depicting trees, waterfalls and bridges. Motifs that appear very rarely in Islamic art.
