Weather in Tirana and best time to go

Tirana

Tirana is located in the inland part of Albania and the weather is therefore slightly different from the coast.

The summers are hotter and not so much cooled by the pleasant sea breeze, but in winter Tirana can be really uncomfortable, thanks to the mountains that grow practically on the outskirts of the city.

In general, however, the information we detail in our month-by-month guide to Albania also applies to Tirana.

When to go to Tirana

If you're heading to Tirana purely for urban tourism, for example for a long weekend, then come here anytime. Expect temperatures of around zero in winter and over 37°C in summer, but neither extreme should matter for short trips.

If you want to combine a visit to the town with hiking in the mountains, avoid winter, when there is a lot of snow on the peaks, but also summer, when high temperatures make hiking difficult. The best months are April, May, September and October.

If swimming in the sea is your main objective, then the best conditions are during our summer, i.e. from June to September.
