Phu Quoc Island is located in the very south of Vietnam and has a typical tropical monsoon climate. Temperatures are high all year round, with average daily temperatures around 28°C.

There are two distinct seasons on the island - the dry season (November - March) is relatively dry and more pleasant to travel in, while the rainy season (April - October) brings torrential downpours and high humidity. Even in the rainy season, however, it usually rains only a few hours a day and you can still enjoy your visit to the island.

Weather in January

January is a very pleasant month to visit Phu Quoc in terms of weather.

You can expect blue skies, high daytime and nighttime temperatures and only minimal rainfall. January is also the peak tourist season on the island, so prices may be slightly higher.

Weather in February

Even in February, Phu Quoc holds good weather and you don't have to worry about any extreme weather. The average daytime temperature is around 30°C and the sea temperature is 28°C, so even heat lovers will enjoy swimming.

Weather in March

March is still a dry season, with rainfall still rather unlikely, but the approaching rainy season is signalled by rising air temperatures. Expect an average temperature of around 32°C and increasing humidity.

Weather in April

April is a transitional month between the dry and rainy seasons. On average, 132 mm of rain falls during the month and average daily temperatures reach 33 °C. April is also the hottest month of the year.

Weather in May

When travelling to Phu Quoc in May, you'll need to allow for the occasional rainfall, with an average of 188mm falling in a month. You will also face high air temperatures, high humidity and the warmest sea temperature of the whole year.

Weather in June

The hot season eases off a little as summer approaches, but rainfall still increases. In June, the average daily temperature is 31 °C and the average rainfall is 243 mm per month.

Weather in July

Although the rainy season is in full swing in July, western tourists come here in large numbers during the school holidays.

Phu Quoc has a typical tropical climate, with frequent rainfall, high temperatures and extreme humidity.

Weather in August

With an average rainfall of around 370 mm per month, August is the rainiest season on Phu Quoc. The average air temperature is around 31 °C.

Weather in September

In September the rainfall slowly starts to diminish, but you still have to expect occasional thunderstorms and downpours. On average, it rains at least a little twenty days a month. Air temperatures and humidity slowly drop.

Weather in October

With October slowly comes the dry season, cooler temperatures and less rainfall. Despite this, holidays to Phu Quoc in October can still be problematic - the sea is often cloudy and rough, and afternoon thunderstorms are no exception.

Weather in November

November is the first month of the dry season, yet an average of 200mm of rain falls during the month. With an average daily temperature of 30°C, a stay on the island is relatively pleasant.

Weather in December

December is the coldest month on Phu Quoc (average air temperature 29 °C) and is the ideal month for beach relaxation, swimming and sightseeing holidays. On the other hand, you have to take into account the crowds of foreign tourists who come to Phu Quoc around Christmas and New Year.

The sea around Phu Quoc Island is warm all year round and suitable for swimming. Average water temperatures range between 28 and 30°C. The water reaches its highest temperatures in May, while you can expect the lowest temperatures in December.
