St. Nicholas Church is the main cathedral of the Church of England in Newcastle and the most important sacred monument in the city. It is located directly opposite Newcastle Castle.

A Gothic gem overlooking the River Tyne
The history of St Nicholas Cathedral dates back to 1091, when construction began. However, it wasn't completed until around 1500, when it was gradually rebuilt from its original Romanesque style into the English Gothic style.
Most of the present form dates from the 14th and 15th centuries.
The cathedral has one tower and its exterior is typically Gothic austere.
The interior is definitely worth a visit. The Gothic space is dominated by stained glass windows and the beautiful carving of the altar.

The cathedral is open to the public every day from 8:00-18:00, closing at 17:00 on Sundays.
