The new Birmingham Central Library opened in 2013 and is one of the main symbols of the extensive modern redevelopment of the city centre that has been underway since the turn of the millennium.
The striking building, built in a post-modern style, attracts attention as one of the city's main tourist attractions. Francine Houben was the main architect.
The library is one of the largest public cultural buildings in Europe and many events are held inside.
