Gothenburg is located on the south-west coast of Sweden in the imaginary middle between the three capitals of Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen. It has excellent rail, air and boat connections. Gothenburg is most often reached by flight, but if you're travelling around Scandinavia, use rail or bus services. Adventurous souls can also take a ferry from Germany to the city.

By air

There is one international airport in Gothenburg, Landvetter GOT. It is located about 20 kilometres east of the city limits and offers a wide range of air connections throughout Europe. You can fly to Gothenburg from cities such as Prague, Vienna, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, London, Dublin, Helsinki and many more.

There are also domestic flights to Stockholm operated by SAS Scandinavian and Ryanair.

By train

The only and main railway station is located in the city centre and is called Gothenburg Centralstation or for short Göteborg C. Apart from cities in the surrounding region, you can take the train to Gothenburg from Oslo, Stockholm, Malmö or Copenhagen.

By bus

Immediately adjacent to Göteborg C railway station is the Nils Ericsson central bus terminal and together they form a single ticket hall. Long-distance bus services to Gothenburg are operated by Flixbus and VY Bus4you.

VY (Bus4You or VYbuss) operates to Gothenburg from Oslo, from Malmö via Helsingborg and Lund and from Stockholm via Borås, Jönköping, Linköping and Norrköping.

Flixbus will offer identical connections plus journeys from abroad. Frequent services depart from Copenhagen and direct buses can also be used for journeys from Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin, Prague and Bucharest.

By ferry

The Stena Line ferry company connects Gothenburg by sea with two cities - Fredrikshavn in Denmark and Kiel in Germany. You can make the trip every day and even four times a day from Fredrikshavn.
