The capital of Norway may seem sleepy to some, but the opposite is true.
The locals have taken the originally pejorative nickname "Tiger City" from a poem by Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and today like to let it be known that Oslo is probably the last metropolis in the industrialised world where it is still possible to live a pleasant, comfortable and peaceful life.
In fact, unlike most other capitals, Oslo's main advantage is its relative tranquillity, which is certainly appreciated by travellers heading here.
This makes it the perfect destination for a long weekend, or as a starting or finishing point for a longer trip to explore the natural beauty of this Nordic country. However, the nearest mountain resorts can be reached directly from the centre in 30 minutes by metro.
