Sollér is popular mainly because of the old wooden train that brings tourists from Palma. A popular town nestled in a valley of orange groves between the mountains and the sea.

The Plaza Constitucio is surrounded by popular tapas bars where you can enjoy freshly squeezed oranges or homemade ice cream and take in the view of the Church of St Bartholomew, built in the 13th century and given a modern facade by Joan Rubid, an apprentice of Gaudí himself.

If you go for a walk around the city, notice the typical architecture - narrow streets and town houses with typical green shutters. In the city you will find 3 museums and the famous art gallery Can Prunera, where you can admire the permanent exhibition of modern art with a collection of artists such as Picasso, Miró, Mattis, Rusiñol and others. Admission costs EUR 5 per person, children under 12 are free.

Port de Sóller and the historic tramway

Just a few kilometres from the city is its port, Port de Sollér, which can be reached by an old wooden tram. The tram runs every hour and costs €7 per person. For more information on prices and timetables, visit the official website.

Port de Sollér is one of the few places that can offer beautiful mountain scenery and breathtaking sea views at the same time. A sandy beach lines the bay, and along the sea you will find a promenade with souvenir shops and tapas bars. Formerly a fishing village in its own right, seafood can be tasted at every corner.

If you take the roughly one-hour walk from the harbour towards the Cap Gros lighthouse, you'll have a beautiful view of the entire harbour and bay. There is also a hiking trail from here to Soller, but it is more suitable for more advanced hikers.

Accommodation

The hilly surroundings of Sóller, with its spectacular sea views and picturesque mountain villages, attract tourists for multi-day stays in the area. The fact is, however, that accommodation in Sóller is among the most expensive in Mallorca.

Apartments start at 3 0 eur per night, while better hotels start at 147 eur per night for two. Prices are about 50% higher in the seaside town of Port de Sóller.

The lowest prices are consistently offered by a small clean hotel Sol Port de Sóller with prices starting from 84 eur per night.

How to get there?

By car

The first and most convenient option is a rental car. Sóller is about 25 km from Palma and is reached by a straight and wide main road with a long tunnel. You can park for free anywhere along the main road, but public car parks charge around 5 to 8 eur per day.

There are noticeably fewer parking spaces in Port de Sóller, and it's definitely better to leave your car up in Sóller and take the tram, walk (about 45 minutes along the sidewalk) or bus down to the sea.

By historic train

In addition to the tram that connects Sóller with Port de Sóller, the town is also famous for the historic electric train Ferrocarril de Sóller (Tren de Sóller).

It runs from Palma de Mallorca, where there is a station at the main transport interchange Estacio Intermodal. It continues through the picturesque village of Bunyola and after an hour's ride reaches the town of Sóller. It runs 2-4 times a day depending on the season.

  • Return ticket for 29 eur
  • Combination of return train ticket from Palma + return tram ticket from Sóller to Port de Sóller for 35 eur
  • Official website

Ticket to Bunyola goes out at 9 eur one way.

By bus

The cheapest mode of transport is by bus. You can use the two main bus routes:

  • 203: for going to the villages of Deia, Valldemossa and to Palma (but it takes 1,5 hours, faster is line 211, see below),
  • 204: fast connection to Palma de Mallorca (takes 40 minutes)
  • To the adjacent village of Fornalutx there is also line 232, which runs 3-4 times a day
  • In the summer season, line 231 goes to Alcúdia

All three lines go to both Sóller and Port de Sóller and can be used to travel between the two. A combination of one trip on the historic tram for 7 eur and a return trip by bus is ideal.

Examples of ticket prices (return tickets without discount):

  • Sóller - Palma de Mallorca: 2,70 eur
  • Sóller - Bunyola: 1,80 eur
  • Sóller - Valldemossa: 2,70 eur
  • Sóller - Deia: 2,70 eur
  • Sóller - Port de Sóller: 1,80 eur
