On the west coast, about 17 kilometres outside Valldemossa, you will find this beautiful little village which has become home to many artists. It would probably be just another of Mallorca's many villages if it weren't for the English writer and poet Robert Graves, who found his second home here. His house, Ca N'Alluny, is now a museum.

In addition, there are many art galleries and small souvenir shops, as well as some very good restaurants.

Book a hotel in Mallorca in advance

Although Deia has come into the tourist consciousness thanks to the ban on the construction of new houses, this is why it has still retained its typical character. Nevertheless, thousands of tourists head here every year in the hope of meeting a celebrity. In the past, Princess Diana, Richard Branson, etc., have all enjoyed coming here. On the hill overlooking the valley you will find the church, which is closed most of the time, and the cemetery.

Make 2 stops between Valldemossa and Deia:

  • Miramar - a 13th century male monastery, now a museum with a beautiful garden, offering breathtaking views of the sea. Entrance fee is 4 EUR / person.

  • Son Marroig - The house of Archduke Louis Salvador, now a museum with a white marble rotunda in the garden overlooking the sea and the rock of Sa Foradada with its typical eighteen-meter hole in the middle. Weddings and concerts are often held here. The Archduke was a true lover of Mallorca and his photographs and writings can be seen in the museum. He saved several buildings along the coast by buying and managing them himself. Admission to the museum costs €4 per person.

Less than 4 km down the winding road steeply down to the sea you will find the picturesque bay of Cala Deia with its ancient fishing village and stunning sea views. Swimming is difficult here, however, despite the difficult and very rocky access to the water.

Accommodation

Deia is one of the most beautiful towns on Mallorca with some really great holiday homes and apartments, but the prices are among the highest on the island. One exception is the wonderfully located Hostal Miramar, with prices from 73 eur per night, but it only has rooms with shared bathrooms.

The rest of Deia's hotels and accommodation have seasonal rates from 257 eur per night.

How to get there?

The village is 30km from Palma de Mallorca, and parking is free on the roadside, but you'll often struggle to find a free space at all.

An alternative mode of transport is the 203 bus, which connects Deia with Valldemossa, Palma de Mallorca and Sóller.
