The Sierra de Mijas is a popular place for hiking, rising to heights of over 1,100 metres above sea level above the resorts of Benalmádena and Fuengirola, and one of the starting points for hiking is the town of Mijas, after which the mountain is named.
One of the most popular routes in the mountain range is the 15km ridge from the top of the cable car from Benalmádena over the mountain tops, with a final descent to the village of Mijas, from where you can return by bus. See a detailed map of this route.
Walking in the Sierra de Mijas always requires sturdy footwear and plenty of water and food. There are no refreshment options on the peaks and although the mountains are partially forested, you will be facing long stretches in the open sun.
