Many travelers head to Osaka just to visit Universal Studios Japan. In this case, stay at one of the many hotels located around the main entrance and JR "Universal-City" train station.

We recommend these hotels with the best value for money:

How to get there

Universal Studios Japan is located on the coast in the western part of Osaka, about 12 km from the city centre. It is easily accessible by public transport.

By train

The fastest way to get to the centre is by the JR train called the "Yumesaki-Line". The entrance to the theme park is about 80 meters from the penultimate station "Universal-City".

Local trains run every 15 minutes from Nishikujo Station, which can be reached by all JR trains running on the JR Osaka Loop.

  • Osaka Station (Umeda) - 17 minutes (1 transfer) / 150 jpy
  • Tennoji - 30 minutes (1 change) / 210 jpy

JR Pass or JR-WEST Pass is valid on all trains. Neither the all-day subway pass nor the Kansai Railway Pass is valid here.

Shuttle boat

Use the regular boat service to travel to the neighbouring island, home to the Kaiyukan Aquarium and Tempozan theme park.

There are no direct bus routes to this area and walking across the highway bridge is not possible.

The ferry runs once every 30 minutes in the morning and once every hour in the afternoon until 6:00pm to 7:00pm depending on the season and days of the week.

The cruise takes 10 minutes and ticket prices are as follows:

  • 900 jpy - one way (on some days around public holidays the price is up to 1 100 jpy)

The JR Pass is not valid on the ship, nor is the all-day subway ticket.

Buses

Bus line 79 runs to the park from the JR Nishikujo train station. However, this line does not have a full day metro pass and the price for 1 ride is higher than the train (210 jpy).

There are also buses running directly to the park to both Kansai and Itami airports (click on the name of the airport for details) and other Japanese cities, see official information: usj.co.jp/bus.
