Expocity

Expocity

Expocity is a huge multifunctional complex, amusement park and shopping centre in one. It is located northeast of the city centre and served as the main exhibition area for Expo 70 in 1970.

Expo 2025 is being held in a different location in Osaka - on an artificial island west of the city centre.

Attractions and points of interest

On an area of 17 hectares, you will find many attractions in the so-called Expo 70 Commemorative Park.

  • Tower of the Sun - The 70-metre high tower with the three faces of the sun became the symbol of Expo '70
  • Redhorse Osaka Wheel - At 123 metres high, it is the tallest Ferris wheel in Japan and the 10th tallest in the world
  • Ethnological Museum

How to get there

Directly under the observation wheel Redhorse Osaka Wheel is a station on the Osaka monorail called "Bampakukinenkoen".

The monorail is not covered by the all-day metro ticket or the JR Pass. You can't even buy transfer tickets to other rail systems in Osaka, so you always have to pay the fare for each ride separately.

The monorail connects to the following rail lines in the direction of the city centre at the following stations.

  • Senrichuo - Midosuji Red Metro Line + connecting Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line (it is possible to ride without transferring - some metro trains transfer directly to the Kita-Osaka Line) towards the centre
  • Yamada - Hankyu Railway direction Umeda
  • Minami-Ibaraki - Hankyu Railway direction Umeda
