Siena lies in the Mediterranean subtropical zone, but its location in a relatively hilly environment and further from the sea means that its climate is closer to temperate.
The difference, however, is the much milder and wetter winters, where snow is really quite rare in Siena, and when it does freeze a few days a year, it's almost always only in the early morning hours.

Weather and temperatures throughout the year
What climate to expect in Siena at different times of the year?
Weather in spring
Spring is beautiful in central Tuscany, with nature lush green and blooming. Temperatures are just right for urban hiking, with temperatures between 17 and 23 °C.
The weather brings periodic showers, but they don't significantly disrupt the trip, as it rarely rains for more than an hour at a time.
Summer weather
Summers in Siena are hot with average temperatures around 29 °C and almost always clear skies. Rain is a rare occurrence in the summer, and thanks to the narrow streets, the high temperatures may not bother you so much.
You'll mostly be in the shade of old stone houses, which make the temperatures feel significantly more comfortable.
Weather in autumn
The autumn weather in Siena is similar to that of spring, only the greenery is not lush but rather brownish, later turning to yellow and red colours.
However, the colourful autumn doesn't come until the end of November. Autumn temperatures range from 14 to 21 °C and October and November in particular are characterised by a large number of short showers, which can occur several times a day.
Winter weather
Winters are wet with frequent showers and cold winds sweeping across the rolling plains around Siena. Temperatures range between 7 and 10 °C, rarely dropping to zero.
