Lorne

Lorne is a popular holiday town with a European Mediterranean feel thanks to its beautiful beaches, pine parks and woodlands and wooded surroundings.
The town is seen as one of the main gateways to the Great Otway National Park.
Beaches and surfing
Lorne has a reputation for having a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere as well as beautiful beaches that are great for both swimming and surfing.
The beach, with its fine golden sand, surrounds the whole of Lorne and stretches for about 3km from Lorne Pier around the centre to the northern edge of the town.
Surf schools can be found right in the centre of the village near the swimming pool.
Popular walks are along the promenade from the centre along the beach to Lorne Pier, where the best views of the coastline and ocean can be found.
Restaurants and shops
Lorne offers a large number of local restaurants, fast-food outlets and great cafes.
There are also many shops selling souvenirs, sports equipment and clothing.
Lorne also has a large FoodWorks supermarket open daily from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, and even until 9:00 pm on Fridays.

Stay in Lorne if you're going hiking in the Great Otway National Park, of which there are plenty around the town.
The town is also ideal for a 1-day stopover during road-trips along the Great Ocean Road, although we personally liked Apollo Bay better.
