Weather in Great Ocean Road and best time to go

The Great Ocean Road region is one of Australia's southernmost regions and has a temperate oceanic climate.
This is characterised by the alternation of 4 seasons, which is otherwise rather rare in the rest of Australia (with the exception of Tasmania and the state of Victoria). However, winters are very mild with temperatures between 12 and 16 °C.

When to go to Great Ocean Road
The peak season on the Great Ocean Road takes place during the Australian summer, between December and March. Head here during this period if you like temperatures in the 20°C range and want to go hiking.
However, be aware that the water is cold even during the summer and rarely exceeds 18°C.
The best months for walks or hikes in the surrounding national parks are December to March, when temperatures between 15 and 22 °C are pleasant.
If you want to hike the famous long-distance Great Ocean Walk, we definitely recommend travelling in the Australian summer. This is because on the Great Ocean Walk you'll be outdoors constantly for at least 4-8 days, sleeping in a tent, so it's a good idea to minimise the likelihood of rain as much as possible.
The off-season months with the lowest temperatures, but also the lowest hotel prices, are June to August.
